Internet becomes essential to politics

3/7/2005 | CoverageCoverage

Tom Lochner, Contra Costa Times

'"The Internet has become a pillar of the American democracy, winning converts from the traditional media as the go-to source for political news, a study published Sunday shows.

It has become a formidable campaigning tool, fund-raising medium and grass-roots political debating forum, a phenomenon that really took off in the last national election cycle, according to the study by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press and the Pew Internet and American Life Project."

NOTE: Many news sites move articles into data bases after a period of time and then offer them for sale, in the process changing the URLs that link to them. Or they require registration. Thus, we provide a link to the front page of the news website and the information necessary to find the story on that site, rather than a direct link to the article.
